Spanish Language Awareness for Educators
Short Courses for Teachers, Administrators, Coaches, Counselors, Nurses, and School Staff
Wouldn't it be a powerful enhancement of your professional skills to be able to communicate more effectively with parents and students whose primary language is Spanish? Given the rapidly growing number of Spanish-speaking families and children on Long Island and NYSED’s increasing requirements for ESL-related expertise, it is crucial that non-Spanish-speaking educators develop stronger knowledge of Spanish language and culture.
This two-course sequence designed to enhance educators' understanding of the language and culture of Spanish-speaking students and families. Participants will learn the basic structures of Spanish Language and will learn vocabulary and phrases that are particularly relevant to K-12 school contexts.
Scheduling
The courses are scheduled in two formats:
- 3 hours, one weekday evening per week for 8 weeks, or
- 4 hours per day for 6 consecutive Saturdays
